Choose the procedure you had

Pick the visit you just had. These are general reminders. If something we said in the chair is different, follow that. Call if you are unsure. For a true emergency, call 911.

Extraction

The first day after a tooth is removed.

Do this

  • Bite on the gauze for about an hour. If it is still bleeding, switch to a fresh pad and hold another 45 minutes.
  • Keep food soft and cool for the first couple of days — soup, yogurt, applesauce.
  • Take medicine exactly as it was written for you.

Avoid this

  • No hot drinks, rinsing, spitting, straws, or soda the day of the visit.
  • Do not brush the surgical spot today. Gentle brushing can start tomorrow.
  • If a child is numb, keep them from chewing their lip or tongue.

Call us if

Heavy bleeding, swelling that keeps growing, or pain that medicine does not touch.
